“R” is for Roger

I am truly blessed to not only have one great father, but two. Two very different people, as well. To say the least, this dynamic has allowed me to be a part of two special relationships. It has allowed me to understand so much more about a father/son relationship as I journey down my own path as a father. Yes, they are both my dad and I would never consider them anything else. This is one of them.

Talent. Where do you get talent? Is it something you learn or something you are born with? I do not believe that has a rock solid answer across every individual, but I do know where my raw creative talent comes from and it is my dad, Roger. When it comes to the word talent, my dad’s picture could be next to it in the dictionary. To start, he is an artist. Primarily in pencil drawing and watercolor, but I think he could pull off anything I asked him to make. This not only includes art in the sense that you would think of art. Just about any type of work he does has creativity to it. From his coffee shop to how he runs electrical wire in a home. He was previously an electrician by trade and helped me wire my entire house. Let’s just say all of the exposed wire in the utility areas looks cleaner than what you would find in a nuclear submarine. It’s about the details and I appreciate this value dearly when it comes to my work at GKR. To design the absolute perfect dream car for a customer, it always comes back to the details. The things you may rarely see or maybe never see at all. I will tell any employee, treat every aspect of a build as if it is something the customer will see every day.

Designing and building things from his mind is his core talent, and it is what he passed on to me as my core talent. I love to build things. From a very young age I was building car models and taking broken toys to make better toys from the broken pieces that were lying around. LEGOs, don't get me started on LEGOs. There was no shortage of me building and dreaming of designs in my mind. It is something that just comes natural to me.

Creativity. Detail. Doing it right. Things I learned from my dad.
